Album Care

How to Store and Care for your Renaissance Album

Here at Renaissance, we take great pride in making high quality, heirloom albums that are meant to be cherished for a lifetime by your clients. Unfortunately, that won’t happen if the books are not treated and cared for properly! We’ve put together this post to help prevent any issues with our books and also inform you on what to do if something ever does happen to the album.

Lay the book flat on its back.

Laying the book flat (and preferably in its original box & pouch) is best for your album. Because our albums have heavier pages than a standard book, they are at risk of sagging over time if you stand the album upright. This is due to a little thing called gravity…so please avoid standing the book upright!

Use the gray pouch!

The gray pouches that come with our albums do serve a purpose! It protects your album from regular wear and tear when handling/viewing the album. Additionally, if you have a lighter color cover material, or opted to go with a silk or linen cover, the black felt lining inside our boxes can sometimes rub off onto your album cover, which is never a good thing.

Keep the album in a temperature controlled environment.

There are many places to store your album that is cool, dry, and away from direct heat/sunlight. You can keep it on the bookshelf, on your coffee table or beneath it, in the closet, or even under the bed!  Please just do not leave the album on the window sill, in the trunk of your car, or anywhere else that it can be exposed to extreme conditions.

Basic Cleaning and Album Care Tips

– Use lint-free, dry cotton cloth to wipe or clean your album.
– Use a piece of scotch tape or a can of compressed air to remove dust particles, specks, and other types of marks on the album.
– Never use water or liquids to clean the cover or the pages of the album. We are able to change the covers and pages of the Soho, Fine Art, and Galleria albums, so please try contacting us before doing anything rash.

In case the album is damaged, please know…

– We can perform page replacements on the Soho, Fine Art, and Galleria Albums.
– We can also perform cover changes/replacements without replacing the entire book.
– If there is a manufacturing defect (warping, cover coming apart, pages lifting), the album should be sent back to us for inspection. Once it’s determined as a manufacturing defect, we will fully repair/replace the book for you/your client.
– If your studio sample has experienced some wear & tear, please let us know and we will fix or replace your album at a discounted price! We know how important having a sample album is.
